Home and School meeting

There is a Home and School meeting tonight.  If you attend, your child gets a dress down pass.  There is no homework tonight because of the meeting.

I have remedied the problem with the Scholastic Book ordering. So if you tried to order and couldn't, try again please.

We have Mass tomorrow.  There is an envelope marked MASS COLLECTION in the FISH Folder on  the Right Back to School side.  Have your child earn a few coins doing a small chore and put the coins in the envelope.  Have them bring it to school and they will put it in the basket at the collection time during the School Mass.

There is a lot more written language in the first grade curriculum as compared to kindergarten.  In the FISH Folder tonight you will find the first papers I graded for a report card grade.  A 4 means the students has mastered the printing on this page.  A 3 means they are doing well but need a bit more practice. A 2 means they are on grasping the concept but need extra practice.  A 1 means there is great improvement needed.  When we practice printing, I tell them to think about the garden.  The top line is the sunshine line.  The middle dotted line is the flower line.  The bottom line is the ground.  And the space below the bottom line is the water.   As they do their homework at home, remind them that many of the letters sit on the ground.  They don't like to get their feet wet below that bottom line. All of the letters sit on the ground or bottom line.  Don't leave them hanging in the air.  Most but not all letters start with the top sunshine line.  As they become more at ease with the formation of the letters, the sentence and paragraph writing will not seem so tedious for them.  Encourage them to form the letters correctly at home to reinforce what they are doing at school.
