Nightly Reading

I hope you enjoyed the long weekend.  I spent lots of time making memories with my family at our Osage river property in Folk, Missouri.  From the stories I heard, the children had fun times, too.

This week, we will begin the  Scholastic Reading Counts Program.  There was a note that came home in the FISH Folder about it.  On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the children will bring a book home to read to you.  Make sure you put your initials on the book log, otherwise they don't get a sticker on the classroom chart. The school has an on-site license, for the students to take comprehension tests on the classroom Chromebooks for points to earn prizes. They are excited about the prizes.

You should have also seen a Scholastic Book Order in the FISH Folder.  If you would like to order books please do so by Friday. 9-17.  You may order them digitally using the class code HGWT7 or send the hard copy with a check to me, no cash, please.

The first math test came home in the FISH Folder on Tuesday.  Take a look at it.  We did well. 

For the first-quarter report card, your child has to make and say the Sign of the Cross.  There seem to be different customs on the way families make and say the Sign of the Cross.  A paper came home in the book bag with the version the children will be tested over.  Please use it as a point of reference to help assure your child is saying it this way.  The left hand versus the right hand is a problem for some of them.

There is a new list of Word Journal vocabulary this week.  Practice them with your child, then sign the page and return the notebook on Friday.

There will be math homework on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this week.
