Just a reminder, the end of the third quarter is NEXT FRIDAY.  Yikes!!  I am testing the children over the third quarter skills.  You may see notes from me coming home in the book bag saying things like, "Take a few extra minutes to go over counting by twos to 100."  That means I have worked with your child individually and they just don't quite have the concept to achieve an S on the report card yet.  Whether you see the note or not, it is still a good idea to go over recognizing coins and their values, the Hail Mary, the Word Journal lists starting with the word "long" to the end and counting by 2's to 100. 
For this week, there is the usual spelling list and Word Journal vocabulary.  We are working on our Lenten Promises.  Some of the children are giving up something and others are choosing to try harder to be better at certain things. In religion we are focusing in on the three main aspects of the Lenten Season, prayer, fasting and giving.  Each day we will set aside more time for formal prayer in religion class such as the Rosary and the Stations of the Cross.  The fasting part will focus on the Lenten Promises they make.  The giving is going to revolve around each child putting an envelope in the basket at the weekly school Mass with some coins in it.  There are children who regularly bring in money for tithing.  I do appreciate you helping me teach your children this concept.  For those children who do not bring anything in, I will have some coins in a box for them to do odd jobs in class to earn change to put in the collection.  There will be envelopes for them to put the money in and mark with their names.  Talk to your children about Lent and the three main components of prayer, fasting and giving.
