Today I introduced the first spelling list to the children. The list of words comes from our basal reading program and usually centers around one reading skill. This week's list is all about words with the long e. You will see three other words have been added, the of and. These words are from a standardized list of "High Frequency Writing Words" in the Rebecca Sitton Spelling program used here at St. Peter. Not only should the students be able to spell the words correctly on the spelling test but they should begin to spell them correctly in all written language as well. There will be a pretest on Wednesday, 1-14. The final test is on Friday, 1-16. Those students who spell all of the words correctly on the pretest do not have to take the final test on Friday! The hardest part of the spelling tests is using the correct printing. Sometimes capital letters end up in the middle of a word. If that happens, the words is counted incorrect. If a letter is printed backward, the word is also incorrect.
