Hello September

We are working on calendar skills and writing the date.  So, our Morning Meeting was all about "Good Bye August and Hello September"  They are doing a good job with writing the date and you can see that on the next page of the High Frequency Word notebook.  There is a new list of words to study this week.  The paper is due back on Thursday with a parent signature indicating your child had read the words to your three times a night on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

We are getting to know each other in religion and have made big poster about ourselves.  They are hanging in the hallway outside of our room.  I will send them home in a few weeks.  They worked diligently on them.  Also I am sending home a paper with the actions and ALL the words to the Sign of the Cross.  They will have to know this for first quarter report card.  This year's school wide theme is THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT.  We've talked about the Holy Spirit and the gifts we receive through God.  Ask them to sing the song "The Fruits of The Spirit".  They do a wonderful job with it.

Speaking of music, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony did not go over so well at lunch.  They did like Handel's Hallelujah Chorus from the Messiah.  The Beatles, Scott Joplin and Alabama were liked.  Tomorrow it's Elvis with the hot ham and cheese. Wednesday I'm going to throw in some Tchaikovsky with the corn dogs.

Last week in reading we went over short a, consonants sounds, nouns and writing sentences.   This week it is short i, more consonant sounds at the beginning and end of words, possessive nouns and writing a narrative. 

There is math homework tonight, page 10B.  Some will need help reading it with an adult.  Unless the day just really falls apart, there should be math homework page 11B on Tuesday, 12B on Wednesday and 13B on Thursday. 

Just a heads up, Tuesdays we go to Mass and it starts at 8:00 sharp.  So, if your child is tardy we may not be in the classroom past 7:50.  So if you normally drop off right at 7:45, try hard to get here a bit early on Tuesdays otherwise they have to wait in the office for an available adult to bring them over to church.
